  • Gingerbread Cookies

This is a favorite around here and much easier than some other gingerbread recipes I've seen.

    2/3 cup shortening
    1 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1/4 cup molasses
    2 cups all purpose flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon each ground cinnamon, cloves and ginger

In mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and spices; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight. On floured surface, roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350* for 8-10 mins or until edges begin to brown. Cool on wire rack.

  • Breakfast conversation

The girls were talking about Christmas this morning while we ate:

    Ada, " Jesus is love".

    Erin, "Jesus is our savior".

    Maygen, "Jesus made the sky".

Erin, "Jesus is in our hearts all the time".

Ada, "Jesus helps when we're sick".

I just sat there as they carried on this awesome conversation with no input from me!

  • How to make the most of a small space!

Our house is a decent size. Actually, I love my house but for 6 people there are times when it's not the biggest of spaces. I've created some easy ways to make the most of my space. I thought I would share them b/c I love to see how other people organize, store, etc. Excuse the quality of the photos-my camera seems to be acting up???

Photo 1: Shelves added to make up for the loss of pantry space. A must have in my house. We have limited cabinet and pantry space and this has pretty much solved the problem.

Photo 2: Kitchen space is limited so the kids have their own storage.

Photo 3: We have no closets on the main floor making winter months a bear for coats. Each kid gets a hook so they can easily get to and put away their own coats.

Photo 4: Again, the winter months come with so many things so I got this bin and labeled each drawer for hats, scarves and mittens. This helps us with finding the necessary items on the way out the door.

Photos 5 and 6: I like to think of these two baskets as "organized chaos!". It gives these things a place without making it too complicated or too organized for this mama to keep up with. (I've tried books on a shelf before and it was a constant headache!)

The end! These little strategies have helped in so many ways!

  • Short or long?

I have a hair appointment this Saturday and as much as I'd like to be crazy and do something different I probably won't. I've had short hair in the past:

    crying

    But Tim hates short hair.

**I need to edit: After I got my hair cut this way it did grow on him. In general though he prefers long hair to short hair.

What is easier? Short or long?  Anyone have any pics of short or long hair styles they have loved? Please share!
